Grape Culture: A tragic comedy stripping back the cultural bondage of domination without consent

  • SideStream Studio 74 Cotton Mill Hill Brattleboro, VT, 05301 United States (map)

SideStream Studio Presents “Grape Culture: A tragic comedy stripping back the cultural bondage of domination without consent” on April 27th at 7 pm, starring local comedian/internet sensation (and SideStream owner) Toni Nagy and performance artist Sarah Buckner.

The show pulls the veil off the pervasive predatory programming that is choking us all. Toni and Sarah will pervert the pretty by unmasking the ugly truth that “grape” culture is not a part of our culture, it is our culture. This comedy-driven show will be penetrated by dance, film, storytelling, clowning, stand up, and skits.

Toni Nagy says, “The ancient Greeks understood that comedy is a mechanism of exploring tragic subjects. Shakespeare comprehended that comedy serves as a means of speaking indigestible truths. Men have made comedy out of their pain since the dawn of written history. Sarah and I are two women who choose to tell their stories through the language of laughter. We are not going to change “grape” culture through rational dialogue – for it’s too embedded in our bodies and hearts to think our way out of this paradigm. We must connect to our spirits and souls to untangle the millennia long conditioning that has brainwashed us all.”

We can’t think our way out of trauma, we must feel our way through it. Toni and Sarah will guide us through the feelings as they work through their personal experiences of innocence-annihilation, and then alchemize their stories through the magic of artistic play. “Grape Culture” confronts the non-linear nature of healing, examining how we will often be met with distrust, gaslighting, and victim blaming even when we engage with “safe spaces.”

Toni and Sarah are convinced that healing can occur and are willing to swim through messy waters to reach an oasis of a new paradigm.

SideStream Studio is located in the Cotton Hill Mill building. Tickets are available at the door for $10-15.
